This is the latest instalment of our Back to Basics ideas. Click here for Layout Principles and here for Colour Confidence.
We have joined forces with the fabulous Quirky Kit girls to show you just how economical, exciting and inspirational subscribing to a kit can be!!
Crafty Templates started out as a place to download Leonora's designs of cardmaking idea sets that were a combination of shaped card designs and digital stamps, long before they were known as digital stamps! Around three years ago she also started putting together kits to use with the card ideas. Those grew to include scrapbooking kits and they quickly became very popular and sold out within a few days of being on sale. The subscriptions started as a way to essentially pre-
order each kit to save disappointment with missing out and now they’re available on a regular basis with kits sent out every other month. The kits are called ‘Quirky Kits’ to reflect their quirky, (being different from the norm) choices of colour, style and contents.
You can visit the Quirky Kits Blog to see what Leonora and the design team are making with the current kits.
It doesn't matter whether you are new to this wonderful hobby or have been doing it for years..we all need stash, right?
However, how many of us shop till we drop for all the new goodies we see in Blog Land or in the stores and then only use a fraction of the 'must have' collection?
That is where subscribing to a kit club makes perfect sense; you get a taste of all the new products and they come to you all beautifully co-ordinated...what's not to love about that??
All of us playing along today have used one or more of the fantastic Quirky Kits... the beauty of Quirky Kits is that you get to choose the one that suits you best!
First off we have the Main Kit:
Looking for something a little smaller? Why not try the Lite Kit:
Don't need paper? Well, QK have just the thing for you!! The Embellishment Kit:
All of the kits are sent out bi-monthly, so no stash overload!! They are beautifully packaged in paper bags, perfect for keeping your goodies neat and tidy; and the Embellishment Kit comes in a cute little box! Leonora and her team have a ton of ideas for you on their blog and they regularly pin sneak peeks of future kits on their Pinterest boards.
So now that we have whet your appetite let's get on with the hop!!!
We decided that we would use a sketch as a starting point for our projects. Sketches are always a good jumping off point; whether you create an exact copy or just take elements of it to get your creative juices flowing. The sketch we chose has a host of ideas to get the crafty blood hotting up; why not give it a go and share your interpretation on our Facebook page? We love to see your work!!
Here's a list of all the gals that are playing along today; please make sure that you leave a comment on every hoppee's blog, like Scrap365 on Facebook and follow the Quirky Kits blog so that we can put you into the draw to win the MAY/JUNE 'It's My Party' Main Kit :)
We will be doing the draw and announcing the winner on Friday, 4th July at 9am.

I have been subscribing to QK for a while now and I LOVE them!! As I tend not to use a lot of patterned paper I have the Lite and Embellishment Kits, and here is what I came up with :)
You will note that I haven't used the sketch religiously but have taken elements from it to create my layout :)
First up...the style that is closest to my heart; clean and simple!
The Lite Kit has the most divine MME gold triangle vellum paper and a bold graphic Teresa Collins cut apart sheet in it; so that was my starting point. The gold fabric leaves are from a previous Quirky Kit. Loving the Alison Kreft alphas too :)
Kreinik Metallic threads are not in the kit but after seeing Terhi's layouts using them...how could I resist?!!
With the exception of the thread the only other thing I used from my stash was a flick of Mr Huey's Gold Color Mist.
The Embellishment Kits are always packed to the brim so I wanted to go wild with my next layout and it's good to give new techniques and styles a go :)
I flicked Gesso onto the fabulous Echo Park 'Capture Life' paper and then layered up strips taken from the Lite Kit selection.
This little beauty is a transparency that comes out of the Basic Grey 'Highline' Ephemera Pack (and, dare I say it not something I would have chosen; however, I LOVE them!!)
Adorable little wood veneers from Pink Fresh Studio
And this little stunner comes from Studio Calico.
Now do you see what I mean about getting a host of goodies that all work together without a) the hassle of searching for them, b) being seduced into spending a bit more for free p&p..we've all done that right?? and c) getting to discover that you love things you wouldn't normally have chosen.
I am a HUGE advocate of Quirky Kits and think that Leonora does a spectacular job. If you are like me and have a room full of stash and are still bored with what you've got...give 'em a go...you won't regret it!! However, if you are new to scrapping then this is the perfect way to get a taste of what's new without breaking the bank...and you will NOT end up with a room full of stash that you don't use ;)
Thank you so much for popping in today and getting through this exceptionally long post!!
Now it's time to hop on over to Leonora and discover a bit more about this very talented lady :)
Don't forget to complete all the requirements to be in with a chance of winning the Main Kit...I think I may just have to buy it!!!
