Back to Basics Blog Hop

We are getting your scrapping New Year off to a flying start!!!

This month we are teaming up with Finnabair and her amazing Design Team from Mixed Media Place :D

Mixed Media Place

One of the things that we are very conscious of here at Scrap365 HQ is that if you are new to scrapping it can be really overwhelming with the choice of products to use and the host of styles to emulate….the same could be said if you’re experienced!!

So we have decided that 2014 is the year to get BACK to BASICS!! It doesn’t matter if you have been scrapping for ten years or ten days...you will be sure to learn something new along the way!

Finnabair has very kindly donated a marvellous prize to either add to your stash or to get you started.

All you need to do to be in with a shot of the prize is follow Scrap365 and Mixed Media Place blogs. Like us both on Facebook and leave a message here telling us which layout principle you are going to try! We would love to see your take on the Principles so be sure to upload them to our Facebook page :)

Our January Blog Hop is all about layout principles. I found this fabulous prompt on Pinterest, courtesy of SuzyQ Scraps http://suzyqscraps.com/. A big thank you to Suzy for letting us use her document. It really sums up the beginnings of every layout.

A handy visual with 10 design tips for visually pleasing scrapbook pages. Click on the image to learn more.

So come with us and see how this sketch turns into some glorious pieces of art :)

Have fun and don't forget to share your layouts with us on Facebook :)

  1. I'd like to focus on principle one ;-) - Focal Point :-)

  2. I will probably try couple of principles: movement and flow and works-every-time. My question is - any other possibilities to upload the work rather than facebook? thanks, kissinia

  3. I think I'll have ago at "Movement & Flow " That was a truly enjoyable hop, I found interesting principles that I'd not even thought about. x

  4. I tend to use combinations of these principles all the time.
Lately though I have had a hankering to go simple so I might have a play with the focal point one.
Thanks for a fabulous Hop, what a world class DT!

  5. I am impressed the huge talent of all Ladies who prepared these examples of layout principles. it's difficult to choose but I think that I will decide on focal point mixed with contrast :)
    thank you for fantastic fun.

  6. Love this blog hop! I usually use focal point, triangle, thirds, texture and contrast on each page.Others I use sometime, I sure try to make a balance and contrast. The only rule I never use (mostly not use) is this repetition one. I really need to try it. I am both companies FB page fan for a long time already.

  7. I'm not a scrapper, I'm a card maker, but these design principles and the layouts produced by all these fabulous ladies can be used equally well on a 'canvas' that measure 6x6 too! Thank you so much for going through these principles in this way. It has helped to clarify what is meant by them and will definitely influence my work going forward through 2014. Thank you for organising it Ali, and a huge round of applause to the rest of the team. Jenny x

  8. Great visual to help scrappers get started - I think a lot of them are used instinctively and quite often combined, but it's good to ring the changes occasionally. I'm choosing alignment for today's page, but I really must try repetition sometime.
Thanks for a fun and inspiring hop. xx

  9. What a great blog hop!! And those tips are just so clever. I'm definitely gonna try something that I'm not so familiar with and I think that is "rule of thirds". Not even sure how it works, but gotta try it :)

  12. What a great 'Hop', beautiful creations from both teams.....truly inspiring way to spend an hour, getting lost in some awesome creativity! Think I'll be trying #1 Focal Point next although I'm hoping to give them all a try.

  13. Most enjoyable blog hop, very inspiring. I have used some of the principles on my pages without realising - triangles, texture, movement and flow. I am going to give #4 Works-every-time a go, it is something I have never done on my layouts before.

  14. Wonderful ideas.... I am going to have to sit with these and take my time to know what one I will choose. This is what I am leaning towards. 1-focal point, 2- rule of thirds, 8-alignment. Great Saturday event. Thank you. sarinda

  16. Fantastic hop blogs - can't wait to see everything along the way, and the composition principles are so clear and useful, thank you. Sadly, as a non-Facebooker, I don't think I'm going to be able to play, am I? But I'm looking forward to hopping for inspiration anyway.

  17. I love this concept for a bloghop. It is so easy to get lost in all the different techniques and mediums available in scrapbooking. I would like to try each one of these just for the leaning experience. I will probably start with texture first! Thanks so much I have learned invaluable lessons today! All the best! 22. A really fantastic hop - such a great idea to let us see the Principles in action - thank you for all the inspiration all the way round. I'm following both blogs (already a regular at MMP, and great to discover your site), but I'm not a Facebooker, I'm afraid, so I don't know if that will disqualify me. In any case, I've had a fabulous time hopping, and I'm definitely going to have a go with these Principles - so useful - probably starting with the movement and flow, with almost certainly some texture thrown in (because I always do!).

Thanks for a fabulous hop, and the chance to win an amazing prize - if I'm allowed in the draw!

  46. Fabulous Hop!!! I feel like I instinctively use most of these principles, but I guess I have never overtly used the rule of thirds precisely, but I will commit to actually breaking up the page and lining up my design mathematically. I will try most anything once. I am actually inspired.
